- Combine cranberries, sugar, and water or orange juice in a medium saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Stir in orange zest, if using, and remove from heat.
- Allow the sauce to cool completely before serving; it will thicken further as it cools.
Notes
For a smoother sauce, you can mash some of the cranberries with a fork or potato masher as they cook. This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
