Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb beef sirloin thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 scallions sliced, for garnish
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish
  • 4 cups cooked rice

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Skillet
  • Wok

Method

Preparation
  1. First, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes in a bowl to create the marinade.
  2. Next, add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade, ensuring it's thoroughly coated.
  3. Allow the beef to marinate for at least 15 minutes, or for more flavor, refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the marinated beef to the hot skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is browned and cooked through.
  3. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook the beef in batches if necessary to ensure even cooking and browning.
Serving
  1. Divide the cooked rice among four serving bowls.
  2. Top each bowl of rice with the cooked Korean beef.
  3. Finally, garnish with sliced scallions and sesame seeds, then serve immediately.

Notes

For extra spice, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a drizzle of sriracha before serving. This dish pairs well with a side of steamed vegetables or kimchi.
