Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper, mixing them thoroughly.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a 1.5-quart baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove the casserole from the oven, stir in 2/3 cup of fried onions, and then sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup on top.
  5. Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the fried onions are golden brown.

Notes

For an extra crunch, you can add a sprinkle of cheese to the topping. To save time, prepare the mixture ahead and bake just before serving. Use fresh green beans for a brighter flavor if preferred, blanching them before adding to the mixture.
