Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 lbs Skirt steak or flank steak
  • 0.5 cup Orange juice
  • 0.25 cup Lime juice
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 3 cloves Minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Shallow dish
  • Large skillet or grill pan

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the orange juice, lime juice, soy sauce, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Place the skirt or flank steak in a shallow dish, pour the marinade over it, ensuring the steak is fully coated, then cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for best flavor.
Cooking
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Remove the steak from the marinade, discarding any excess, and cook for 4-6 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness.
  3. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain into thin strips to serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider grilling the carne asada over charcoal. You can also add a pinch of smoked paprika to the marinade for a deeper, smokier taste. Serve with warm tortillas, salsa, and guacamole for a complete meal.
