Preparation
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, then let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in the olive oil, salt, and gradually add the flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 7 equal pieces, rolling each piece into a 8-10 inch long breadstick shape.
- Arrange the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the breadsticks are still warm, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder, oregano, and Parmesan cheese.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the topping. These breadsticks are best served warm and can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
