Preparation
  1. Measure out 9 cups of Chex cereal and place it into a large bowl. Ensure the bowl is spacious enough for mixing.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir.
  3. Continue to microwave the mixture for 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until it's smooth and completely melted. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal. Gently stir until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  5. Transfer the coated cereal into a large resealable plastic bag. Add the powdered sugar to the bag.
  6. Seal the bag and shake thoroughly until the cereal is completely covered with powdered sugar. Spread the Puppy Chow onto wax paper to cool before serving or storing.

Notes

For best results, make sure your chocolate mixture is smooth before adding it to the cereal. You can also experiment with different types of Chex cereal or add other mix-ins like M&M's or pretzels for variety.
