Main Ingredients
  • 2 lbs Potatoes preferably Russet or Yukon Gold
  • 2 cups Heavy Cream
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Medium saucepan
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Aluminum foil

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes, aiming for about 1/8-inch thickness, then set aside.
Cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Arrange a third of the sliced potatoes in a single layer in the prepared baking dish, pour one-third of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with a third of the grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Repeat the layering two more times, ensuring the top layer is evenly covered with cream and cheese.
  4. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
Serving
  1. Let the scalloped potatoes rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set.

Notes

For best results, slice potatoes uniformly to ensure even cooking. You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the cream mixture for an extra layer of flavor.
