Preparation
- Carefully halve each jalapeño lengthwise and remove seeds and membranes, then set aside.
- In a bowl, combine cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese until well mixed.
- Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeño half, ensuring they are evenly filled.
Breading & Cooking
- Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Dip each filled jalapeño first in flour, then in egg, and finally coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
- To fry, heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C) and cook poppers for 2-3 minutes until golden; for baking, place on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes.
Notes
For a milder popper, remove all seeds and membranes from the jalapeños before filling. You can also experiment with different types of cheese or add in cooked bacon bits for extra flavor.
