Preparation
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, then let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, melted butter, and beaten egg to the yeast mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 15-20 minutes until doubled in size.
- Gently punch down the risen dough, divide it into 12 equal pieces, and shape each piece into a ball.
- Arrange the shaped rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan, cover them, and let them rise again for 10-15 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), and in a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water for the egg wash.
- Brush the tops of the risen rolls with the egg wash for a golden-brown finish.
- Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
Notes
For extra flavor, brush the warm rolls with melted butter just after they come out of the oven.
