Prepare the filling
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; toss gently until evenly coated.
Assemble the pie
- Carefully place one pre-made pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, then pour the apple filling evenly into the crust.
Add top crust
- Place the second pie crust over the filling, trim and crimp the edges to seal, and cut several slits in the top for steam release.
Bake the pie
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg, sprinkle with sugar, and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Cool and serve
- Allow the pie to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving to ensure the filling sets properly.
Notes
For best results, use a high-quality store-bought pie crust. Adjust baking time based on your oven; the crust should be golden brown and the filling bubbly.
