  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Crust
  • 2 (9-inch) pre-made pie crusts, chilled
Topping/Finish

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar for sprinkling

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Pie dish (9-inch)
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Whisk
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

Prepare the filling
  1. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; toss gently until evenly coated.
Assemble the pie
  1. Carefully place one pre-made pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, then pour the apple filling evenly into the crust.
Add top crust
  1. Place the second pie crust over the filling, trim and crimp the edges to seal, and cut several slits in the top for steam release.
Bake the pie
  1. Brush the top crust with beaten egg, sprinkle with sugar, and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Cool and serve
  1. Allow the pie to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving to ensure the filling sets properly.

Notes

For best results, use a high-quality store-bought pie crust. Adjust baking time based on your oven; the crust should be golden brown and the filling bubbly.
