Basic Cranberry Sauce
- Combine cranberries, sugar, and water/orange juice in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and let it cool completely before serving. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.
Spiced Cranberry Sauce
- In a saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Remove the cinnamon stick before serving.
Cranberry-Ginger Sauce
- Combine cranberries, brown sugar, water, and grated fresh ginger in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat.
- Stir frequently until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened. Serve warm or chilled.
Notes
These sauces can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. For a smoother sauce, you can press it through a fine-mesh sieve after cooking. Adjust sugar to your taste preference.
