Ingredients

Donut Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup melted butter
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup melted butter

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • whisk
  • donut pan
  • wire rack
  • shallow dish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients: apple cider, egg, and melted butter. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a donut pan. Fill each donut cavity about two-thirds full with the batter.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the donuts are golden brown and spring back when lightly touched. Let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Coating
  1. While the donuts are still warm, melt the butter for the coating. In a shallow dish, mix together the sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Dip each donut into the melted butter, ensuring it's fully coated, then dredge it in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.

Notes

For an extra apple flavor, you can reduce the apple cider by half over medium heat until it thickens before adding it to the wet ingredients.
