Preparation
- Cook ground beef and drain fat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer for 30 minutes, then season.
- Combine ricotta, 2 cups mozzarella, and half the parsley. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions.
Assembly
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and 1 cup mozzarella.
- Repeat layers, finishing with noodles, meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Cover with foil.
Baking
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 15 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, prepare the lasagna a day ahead and refrigerate. This allows flavors to meld and makes it easier to slice. You can also add a touch of red wine to the meat sauce for extra depth of flavor.
