Ingredients
  

Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
Cheese Mixture
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Other
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cook ground beef and drain fat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer for 30 minutes, then season.
  3. Combine ricotta, 2 cups mozzarella, and half the parsley. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions.
Assembly
  1. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and 1 cup mozzarella.
  2. Repeat layers, finishing with noodles, meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Cover with foil.
Baking
  1. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 15 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, prepare the lasagna a day ahead and refrigerate. This allows flavors to meld and makes it easier to slice. You can also add a touch of red wine to the meat sauce for extra depth of flavor.
